Class Policies and FAQs
The following policies and procedures have been put in place to provide accessible, safe classes for you and your children. Please help to make our classes run efficiently by adhering to the following guidelines.
Requirement for Classes: At checkout, families will be required to agree to our Policies and Procedures in order to attend. You are responsible for ensuring that any adult who brings your child has read and understood the policies, procedures, and waiver prior to attending the class!

Note: Because the Mayerson JCC handles registration for their classes, these registration policies may not apply. Contact Marisa Phillips (mphillips@mayersonjcc.org) for information about registration at the JCC.

Attendance
Make-up classes
-
Make-up classes are offered to families who miss their regular class for any reason and must be completed within the same semester.
-
Families can register for a make-up class on the book now page or by contacting Meghan directly
Illness
-
Please do not come to class if you or your child are sick. Older children who are home from school because they are sick should not come to class with you. Consider that we work with some children/adults with compromised immune systems and some very young babies, so please err on the side of caution.
-
Families are always eligible to do a make-up class if they miss class throughout the semester.
Inclement Weather:
-
If classes must be canceled due to inclement weather, families will be notified via text and/or email. Please ensure your contact information is current at registration.
-
If no communication is sent, classes will be held as scheduled. In the event of cancellations, the semester will be extended to accommodate missed classes.
Visitors/older siblings
-
Adult family members (grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles, etc.) are welcome to attend class at any time and are encouraged to participate fully as active members of the class.
-
Older siblings may attend as well, provided there is space in the class.
-
Please contact Meghan in advance if possible.
Timeliness
-
Classes begin promptly. Families are encouraged to arrive 5-10 minutes early to support smooth transitions, minimize disruptions, and ensure a quality class experience.
Participation
Your role
-
Your active participation (regardless of what you think about your musical ability) is the key to children growing and learning musically.
-
It is very difficult for a child (and your teacher) to tune out adult conversation, so please help in supporting our music-making environment by limiting external conversation and actively participating
Cell phones
-
Please put cell phones on vibrate during class time. Limit phone use unless absolutely necessary, and obtain permission from other families before sharing photos or videos that include other children.
-
This is a rare chance for some screen-free bonding with your child!
-
The best time to take photos of your child is during the play-along so that you can participate fully in the rest of class.
Food/drink
-
If your child needs a snack, please take a break outside of the classroom to avoid messes and disruptions.
-
Water, bottle feeding, and breastfeeding are absolutely fine in class!
Photo/video
-
Photos and/or videos may occasionally be taken for use in promotional materials, including social media, our website, and printed materials.
-
If you are not comfortable with your child being featured in these materials, please notify Meghan in writing via email (support@soundsupportohio.org)
Safety
-
Caregivers are responsible for supervising their child at all times. If a child engages in unsafe behavior (e.g. running, cimbing, throwing), the caregiver is expected to intervene immediately.
-
If needed, families are encouraged to step out of the classroom to support regulation. For ongoing concerns, please contact Meghan to discuss strategies for success.
-
Encourage safe behavior by using positive language (telling them what you want them to do), and modeling by participating fully in class.
